CAP v ICE Annual Bowls Match 22 October 2007 by Bob Read
A bright, sunny morning greeted us as we turned up for our annual bowls match against ICE. It was their turn to host the event, and they chose a Monday morning, so all members of the CAP team were ordered to be in bed by 9 pm the night before. I am pleased to report that everyone was, some even leaving bed and going home later! We had an excellent turnout with more than 30 players, so with a little adjustment we had six teams. Alan from ICE organized a raffle and donated the prizes. Many thanks Alan. It was also Malcolm’s birthday, so we gave him a small gift and an enthusiastic round of applause. After a slight mix-up with the score the result was a draw. Although ICE said they scored more points and therefore were the winners, I, being the boss, overruled them. (It’s no good being in charge if you can’t do things in your favour.) So, as CAP were the holders, we retained the trophy. I am sure everyone enjoyed themselves in what was a light-hearted morning. As a bonus, ICE decided the money raised should go to the Elliot George Foundation, so on the day of our Christmas Fair, 12 December, a cheque for €220 was presented to Becky Mols, their representative. Thank you so much to everyone taking part.
